Spotted
The Band-tailed Antbird is a distinctive antbird species, easily identified by the prominent black band on its tail. Males have a dark grey head and white underparts, while females are browner.
Where to spot
Found in the understory of humid lowland forests, strictly associated with riparian habitats like stream banks, river islands, and oxbow lakes in the western Amazon basin.
How to spot
Focus observations along watercourses. They are often quite vocal, and their calls are helpful for detection. Look for their characteristic tail-banding.
When to spot
Year-round resident. Best sought during the early morning and late afternoon.
