Spotted
The Sand-colored Antbird is a relatively recently recognized species, characterized by its pale, sandy-brown plumage, which provides excellent camouflage in its specific habitat.
Where to spot
Endemic to patches of white-sand forest (campinarana) in the Amazon basin, primarily in western Brazil and eastern Peru.
How to spot
Requires visiting specific white-sand forest habitats. Listen for its distinctive song, which differs from similar antbirds. They can be very difficult to spot due to their camouflage.
When to spot
Year-round resident. Best sought during the dry season when accessing these specific forest types is easier.
This species is a cryptic specialist, found exclusively in the unique, nutrient-poor white-sand forests (campina or campinarana) of the Amazon.
