Where to spot
Inhabits the understory of humid lowland forests in the southwestern Amazon basin, particularly in western Brazil and southeastern Colombia.
How to spot
Locate army ant swarms. Its unique chestnut crest and bare blue facial skin make it unmistakable. It can be quite bold near the ants.
When to spot
Year-round resident. Best observed during early morning and late afternoon when army ants are active.
