The Yellow-throated Tinkerbird is a small, green African barbet with a distinctive bright yellow throat patch and often subtle streaking on its underparts. It's a common inhabitant of lowland rainforests.
Where to spot
Humid lowland rainforests, forest edges, and mature secondary growth in West and Central Africa, from Guinea to Democratic Republic of Congo and Angola.
How to spot
Listen for its repetitive, rather slow 'pok... pok... pok...' calls. Scan the mid to upper canopy for small, active green birds, and look for the bright yellow throat patch.
When to spot
Year-round; consistently heard calling, especially in the early morning and late afternoon.
