Where to spot
Miombo woodlands and associated dry forests in a restricted range in south-central Zambia, particularly near the Kafue National Park.
How to spot
Listen for its loud, repetitive hooting calls. Look for its bright yellow plumage and red face in the mid to upper canopy of miombo trees. A local guide familiar with its habitat is highly recommended.
When to spot
Year-round, but finding it requires visiting its specific habitat. Most vocal during the breeding season (around September to November).
Chaplin's Barbet is Zambia's only endemic bird species, making it a symbol of the country's avian biodiversity and a priority for conservation efforts.
