Endemic to the Solomon Islands and the Bismarck Archipelago (Papua New Guinea).
How to spot
Search in undisturbed primary lowland rainforests. Patience is essential. Look for its pale head and, if visible, yellow legs. Listening for its deep calls may be the first indication of its presence, as it often remains hidden high in the canopy.
When to spot
Very rare and elusive. Active during daylight hours. Best observed during periods of fruit abundance, which might draw them to more open areas.
Despite its bright yellow legs, this pigeon is notoriously difficult to observe in its dense forest habitat, making it one of the most elusive birds in its range and a prized sighting for birdwatchers.
