The Yellow-breasted Fruit Dove is a beautifully marked species, characterized by its bright yellow breast, green body, and a distinctive red patch on the nape. It is a shy, resident bird of the Philippine forests.
Where to spot
Endemic to the Philippines, found on various islands including Luzon, Mindanao, and Mindoro. Inhabits lowland and montane forests, often in dense vegetation.
How to spot
Focus on the mid to upper canopy of fruiting trees in its native forest habitat. Its excellent camouflage requires patient scanning. Listening for its characteristic 'hoooo-hoo-hoo' calls is often the best way to locate this elusive bird.
When to spot
Most active in the early morning and late afternoon when foraging. It is a resident species, observable year-round.
