Spotted
The Hill Pigeon is a medium-sized pigeon closely related to the Rock Dove, primarily inhabiting mountainous and rocky regions. It is well-adapted to high-altitude environments.
Where to spot
Found across Central Asia, including parts of the Himalayas, Tibet, and northern China, typically in high-altitude rocky landscapes, cliffs, and montane steppes.
How to spot
Look for grey pigeons with a white patch on the hindneck and a pale tail band. Observe them near rocky outcrops, often in small groups, or foraging in high-altitude open areas.
When to spot
Year-round, active during daylight hours. They may descend to lower elevations for food or water, especially during harsh winter conditions.
