Spotted
The Yellow-billed Turaco is a beautiful turaco species characterized by its vibrant green plumage, a red crown, and a distinctive, large yellow bill. It is a denizen of West African rainforests.
Where to spot
Inhabits primary and secondary rainforests and dense woodlands of West Africa, primarily from Guinea east to Ghana.
How to spot
Focus on the mid to upper levels of the forest canopy. Look for the large yellow bill, which stands out against the green foliage. Listen for its loud, clanking 'ko-ko-ko' calls.
When to spot
Present year-round. It is often most active and vocal during the early morning and late afternoon, when they are foraging for fruits.
The large, prominent yellow bill is a key distinguishing feature that gives this species its common name and helps differentiate it from other green turacos.
