A magnificent and strikingly colored bird, the Red-crested Turaco is distinguished by its brilliant scarlet crest and deep green body plumage. It holds the honor of being the national bird of Angola.
Where to spot
Endemic to Angola, inhabiting humid evergreen forests, gallery forests along rivers, and dense woodlands.
How to spot
Scan the mid to upper canopy for their distinctive shape and rich colors. Their loud, distinctive 'craa-craa-craa' calls often betray their presence before they are seen. A good pair of binoculars will help pick out their vibrant red crest.

Present throughout the year. Most active and vocal during the early hours of the morning and late afternoon.
