Spotted
A medium-sized swift endemic to a small region of Colombia, distinguished by its overall dark plumage and a contrasting white patch on its chest. It's an agile flyer over montane areas.
Where to spot
Endemic to the Western Andes of Colombia. Often observed over forested mountain slopes, valleys, and cloud forest edges.
How to spot
Look for its overall dark appearance with a prominent white chest patch, which is visible with good views. Its flight is strong and direct, typical of swifts. Binoculars are essential for distant observations.
When to spot
Can be observed year-round within its limited range, often more active during daylight hours, especially in fair weather while foraging for insects.
