Spotted
Very similar in appearance to the Common Swift, but with a slightly paler, browner plumage and a more extensive, less defined pale throat patch. It typically inhabits warmer climates.
Where to spot
Coastal areas, cliffs, and urban environments around the Mediterranean Basin, parts of the Middle East, and East Africa.
How to spot
Observe closely for the slightly browner plumage and larger, more diffuse pale throat patch compared to the Common Swift. They often fly lower and sometimes with a less frenetic flight pattern than Common Swifts.
When to spot
Breeding season (spring/summer) in their northern range, present year-round in some parts of their southern range. Active throughout the day.
