The Tropical Shearwater is a small, distinct shearwater species found in the Indian and Pacific Oceans. It was formerly considered a subspecies of Audubon's Shearwater but is now recognized as a separate species.

Widespread throughout the tropical Indian Ocean and tropical western Pacific Ocean. Breeds on numerous oceanic islands within this vast area.

Requires pelagic boat trips in tropical Indian and western Pacific waters. Look for its small size and typical shearwater flight close to the water. Distinguish from other small shearwaters by its consistently dark undertail coverts and geographical range.
