Spotted
A large swift restricted to the unique 'tepui' table mountains of South America, characterized by its glossy black plumage. It is a specialist of these isolated habitats.
Where to spot
Endemic to the tepuis of southern Venezuela, western Guyana, and northern Brazil. Found foraging high above the tepui plateaus and surrounding forests.
How to spot
Look for a large, glossy black swift with typical swift wing shape. While similar to other large dark swifts, its strict association with tepui habitats is a key clue for identification.
When to spot
Can be observed year-round within its restricted range, often active during daylight hours, especially in good weather. Look for them when insects are abundant.
The Tepui Swift's range is entirely confined to the biologically unique tepui formations, demonstrating a strong specialization to this particular habitat type, which are ancient flat-topped mountains.
