Spotted
An extremely large swift endemic to Mexico, distinguished by its incomplete white collar which is often restricted to the sides of the neck. It is one of the heaviest swift species.
Where to spot
Endemic to Mexico, primarily found in the Sierra Madre Occidental and Oriental. Often observed over rugged mountains, pine-oak forests, and canyons.
How to spot
Look for its massive size and dark plumage. The key feature is the broken or incomplete white collar, usually visible as white patches on the sides of the neck, which distinguishes it from the White-collared Swift.
When to spot
Mostly observed during the breeding season (spring and summer) when they are active around nesting cliffs. May be present year-round in some regions.

This swift is among the heaviest of all swift species, a characteristic that contributes to its powerful and direct flight, enabling it to navigate rugged mountain terrains.
