Spotted
A distinctive antpitta confined to the unique, isolated tabletop mountains known as tepuis. It is a secretive resident of the humid forest undergrowth on these ancient formations.
Where to spot
Endemic to the humid montane forests and dense scrub on the slopes and summits of the tepuis in southeastern Venezuela, western Guyana, and northern Brazil.
How to spot
Listen for its distinctive hooting calls, which carry well in the dense forest. Observing it requires visiting specific tepui locations and patiently searching the undergrowth.
When to spot
Most active and vocal during early morning and late afternoon. Can be found year-round in its specific tepui habitat.
