A somewhat smaller antpitta, named after a prominent ornithologist, with a rather plain brownish plumage. It is a shy resident of the undergrowth in humid foothill and lowland forests.
Where to spot
Found in humid lowland and foothill forests across the western Amazon Basin, from eastern Ecuador and northern Peru south to northern Bolivia.
How to spot
Listen for its characteristic vocalizations. It is a very shy bird; observe patiently near where calls are heard, focusing on movement on the forest floor, often near dense thickets.

Most active and vocal during early morning and late afternoon. Can be found year-round in its Amazonian forest habitat.
