The Rukia White-eye is a critically endangered and highly localized species endemic to the island of Chuuk in Micronesia. It is a shy bird of montane forests.
Where to spot
Endemic to the island of Tol (part of Chuuk) in the Federated States of Micronesia. Critically endangered, found in remaining high-altitude montane forests.
How to spot
Its plain brownish-grey plumage and faint eye-ring make it inconspicuous. It is very shy and often stays hidden in dense foliage. Listen for its high-pitched, soft calls to locate it.
When to spot
Resident year-round. Most active during the day. Observing it requires significant effort due to its rarity and limited habitat.
