The Plain White-eye is a widespread and common species found across East Africa. It is a typical white-eye with green plumage and a prominent eye-ring.
Where to spot
Widespread across East Africa, from Sudan and Ethiopia south to Tanzania and Democratic Republic of Congo. Inhabits forests, woodlands, savannas, cultivated areas, and gardens.
How to spot
Look for its prominent white eye-ring, overall olive-green plumage, and plain yellow underparts. Often found in active flocks, foraging for insects and nectar. Listen for its clear, twittering calls.
When to spot
Resident year-round. Active during the day. Easily observed throughout the year.
This species, as its name suggests, has relatively plain plumage, making its white eye-ring the most prominent identifying feature.
