Spotted
The Sumatran Cochoa is a rare and enigmatic bird endemic to the montane forests of Sumatra. It has a striking combination of dark blue, black, and iridescent green plumage, resembling other cochoas.
Where to spot
Montane rainforests of Sumatra, Indonesia, typically at higher elevations (1,200-2,600m) in dense, pristine forests.
How to spot
Extremely difficult to observe due to its rarity and preference for dense, remote habitats. Patience, quiet observation, and listening for its characteristic calls are essential. Focus on mossy, wet forest areas.
