Spotted
The Striated Weaver is a widespread Asian weaver species, named for the streaking on its plumage, particularly visible in non-breeding males and females. Males show a golden-yellow head during breeding.
Where to spot
Found across South and Southeast Asia, from Pakistan to Indonesia, typically in grasslands, reedbeds, rice fields, and areas near water.
How to spot
Look for them in wetland habitats, rice paddies, and reedy areas. Their characteristic streaked plumage and intricate nests hanging from reeds or branches are key identification features.
When to spot
Active year-round. The breeding season, usually during the monsoon months, is the best time to see males in their brightest plumage and observe nesting behavior.
