Rüppell's Weaver is a medium-sized, strikingly yellow weaver bird, with breeding males having a black face and throat. It is a common species of open woodlands and savannas.
Where to spot
Found in East Africa, primarily in Ethiopia, Eritrea, and Sudan. Inhabits savannas, acacia woodlands, dry bushland, and cultivated areas.
How to spot
Look for its bright yellow plumage and black face/throat (in breeding males). They are often seen in noisy groups around colonial nesting sites. Listen for their characteristic chattering calls.
When to spot
Year-round resident. Breeding activity is most prominent during the rainy season, when males are in their brightest plumage and are actively building nests.
