Speke's Weaver is a common and conspicuous weaver bird, with breeding males featuring a bright golden-yellow plumage and a black face. It is often found in human-modified landscapes.
Where to spot
Found in East Africa, primarily in Ethiopia, Somalia, Kenya, and Uganda. Inhabits savannas, grasslands, agricultural areas, towns, and gardens.
How to spot
Look for its bright golden-yellow plumage and black face (in breeding males). They are often found in large, noisy colonies, even in urban settings. Listen for their constant, chattering calls.
When to spot
Year-round resident. Breeding activity is most prominent during the rainy season, when males are in their brightest plumage and are actively building nests.
