The Spectacled Imperial-Pigeon (Ducula perspicillata) is a large, distinctive pigeon endemic to the northern Moluccas (Maluku) and other islands in eastern Indonesia. It is named for the bare, red skin around its eyes, resembling spectacles.

Endemic to the northern Moluccas (Halmahera, Morotai, Obi, Bacan, etc.) and other islands in eastern Indonesia. Inhabits lowland and hill forests, including primary and secondary growth.
How to spot
Look for large pigeons with a distinctive red eye-ring. They are often high in the canopy of fruiting trees. Listen for their deep, booming 'coo' calls, which are typical of imperial-pigeons and can help locate them.

Active year-round. Best observed during early mornings and late afternoons when feeding or flying between roosts. Seasonality of fruit can influence local movements.
