The White-collared Pigeon is a distinctive medium-sized pigeon endemic to the highlands of Ethiopia and Eritrea. Its most notable feature is a prominent white band around its neck.

Endemic to the Ethiopian and Eritrean Highlands, typically found in rocky cliffs, gorges, cultivated areas, and open montane landscapes between 1,800 and 4,000 meters.
How to spot
Look for its striking white collar against a largely grey body with a reddish breast. Observe in flocks feeding on the ground or perched on cliffs. Its call is a deep, repetitive cooing.
When to spot
Year-round, active during daylight. Best observed during the dry season when they are more concentrated around water points.
