Spotted
The Pink-headed Fruit Dove is a stunning bird known for its distinct pink head, contrasting with its vibrant green body and grey underparts. This arboreal species thrives in the montane forests of its native islands in Indonesia.
Where to spot
Found on the islands of Java, Bali, and Lombok in Indonesia. Inhabits montane and submontane forests, typically at higher elevations.
How to spot
Scan the mid to upper canopy of montane forests, particularly near fruiting trees. While its pink head is striking, it can still be camouflaged by dense foliage. Listening for its deep, resonant cooing calls can help in detection.
When to spot
Active during daylight hours, especially in the mornings, when foraging for fruits. It is a resident species, observable throughout the year.
