The Pampas Pipit is a pipit species native to the grasslands of southern South America. It is a rather drab species, well-camouflaged for its open prairie environment.
Where to spot
Southern South America, including Argentina, Uruguay, and southern Brazil. Found in various grassland habitats, including the vast Pampas.
How to spot
Look for a typical streaky brown pipit foraging on the ground. Listen for its song, especially during the breeding season, which is often delivered during a display flight.
When to spot
Year-round resident. Best observed during the breeding season (spring/summer) when males are performing display flights.
