The Sulawesi Ground Dove is a striking, medium-sized ground-dwelling dove endemic to the island of Sulawesi in Indonesia. It is characterized by its iridescent green plumage and a distinctive facial pattern.
Where to spot
Endemic to the island of Sulawesi (Indonesia), primarily found in tropical moist lowland and montane forests, often in areas with broken or disturbed canopy.
How to spot
Look for it walking quietly on the forest floor, often near clearings or along trails. Identify by its iridescent green upperparts, greyish head with a distinctive rufous patch behind the eye, and a pale belly. Its call is a soft hooting.
When to spot
Most active during the early morning and late afternoon, when it forages on the forest floor. Can be difficult to spot during midday.
