The Spice Imperial-Pigeon is a large, predominantly dark imperial-pigeon with a distinctive pale collar or neck patch, giving it a smart appearance. It is native to various islands in Indonesia.
Where to spot
Found on numerous islands within the Moluccas (Maluku Islands) and West Papua region of Indonesia, inhabiting lowland and hill forests, including coastal areas.
How to spot
Scan the canopies of tall forest trees, especially those bearing fruit. Look for its dark body and contrasting pale neck band. Its flight is strong and purposeful.
When to spot
Present throughout the year. Best observed during early morning or late afternoon when actively foraging in the forest canopy. During fruiting seasons, they may be more concentrated.
