The Scaled Dove is a widespread and distinctive ground-dove named for the prominent dark scaling on its neck, breast, and back. It is a common sight in urban areas and cultivated lands, often foraging in small groups.

Widely distributed from eastern and southern Brazil, Paraguay, Bolivia, and northern Argentina, extending north into parts of the Caribbean. Found in open and semi-open habitats, including parks, gardens, savannas, and agricultural areas.
