A distinctive large cuckoo-dove with a prominent crest and dark plumage, endemic to the Solomon Islands. It is often found in the canopy of lowland and montane forests.

Endemic to the Solomon Islands, inhabiting primary and secondary forests, typically from sea level up to montane elevations.
How to spot
Look for its large size, dark color, and especially its prominent crest. It can be found foraging high in the forest canopy, often in pairs. Listen for its characteristic vocalizations.

Best observed during early morning or late afternoon when birds are more active. Present year-round within its habitat.
