Widespread across West and Central Africa, from Senegal east to the Democratic Republic of Congo. Found in diverse forest habitats, including gallery forests, woodlands, and secondary growth.
How to spot
Listen for their loud, raucous 'kow-kow-kow' calls, which often precede a sighting. Look for them moving deliberately through the tree canopy, and watch for the flash of red in their wings as they glide between trees.

Unlike most green birds whose color comes from structural light scattering, the Guinea Turaco's green plumage is due to a unique copper-based pigment called turacoverdin.
