Spotted
Solomon's Ground Dove is a critically endangered or possibly extinct species from the Solomon Islands. It is known from very few historical specimens and records.
Where to spot
Historically known from the islands of Makira (San Cristobal) and Malaita in the Solomon Islands. Its current status is uncertain, and it may be extinct.
How to spot
This species is extremely unlikely to be observed due to its probable extinction. Any potential observation would require extensive, well-resourced expeditions to remote, undisturbed forest habitats in its historical range.
When to spot
No longer reliably observable. Historically, like other ground doves, it would have been active during daylight hours.
Last definitively recorded in 1927, Solomon's Ground Dove represents a poignant example of a species that may have succumbed to habitat loss and introduced predators before being fully understood.
