The White-fronted Quail-Dove is a distinctive and range-restricted ground-dove found on Hispaniola. It is easily identified by its prominent white forehead and facial markings.
Where to spot
Endemic to the island of Hispaniola (Dominican Republic and Haiti), typically found in humid montane forests and dense lowland woodlands.
How to spot
Look for it foraging quietly on the forest floor amidst dense undergrowth. Its striking white forehead and face are excellent identification features, even in dim light. Listen for its soft, low, cooing call, similar to other quail-doves.
When to spot
Year-round. Best observed during the cooler parts of the day, particularly early morning and late afternoon.
