Widely distributed across many islands in the Bismarck Archipelago, Solomon Islands, and parts of Micronesia and Melanesia, inhabiting diverse forest types from coastal to montane.

Look for its large size, typically pale underparts, and the distinctive white 'spectacles' around its eyes. Listen for its deep, booming 'whoo-whoo-WOO' calls, which are very characteristic.
