Spotted
The Mountain Thrush is a dark, rather plain thrush found in Central America, characterized by its dusky brown plumage, slightly paler belly, and dark bill.
Where to spot
Humid montane forests and cloud forests, often near forest edges or clearings, from southern Mexico to western Panama.
How to spot
Look in the canopy or mid-story of montane forests, especially around fruiting trees. Its somewhat drab appearance can make it hard to distinguish from other dark thrushes, so observing its behavior and listening for calls is important.
When to spot
Year-round resident. Active throughout the day, often more visible when foraging for fruits.
This thrush is primarily a fruit-eater, often found in large flocks at fruiting trees during the non-breeding season.
