The Dark-sided Thrush is a relatively small thrush with a plain brown back and heavily scaled or spotted underparts, giving it a somewhat dark appearance on its sides. It's often found in humid evergreen forests.
Where to spot
Humid evergreen and mixed forests across Southeast Asia, ranging from the Himalayas to parts of Indochina.
How to spot
Look on the forest floor, where it forages for insects and fruits. It can be shy, so observe quietly from a distance. Its calls may help in detection.
When to spot
Year-round resident in its range. Active during the cooler parts of the day, especially dawn and dusk.

Despite its name, the 'dark sides' are due to heavy, dark scaling on its flanks rather than a solid dark patch, helping it blend into dappled light.
