Spotted
The Russet-tailed Thrush is a thrush endemic to the Solomon Islands, distinguished by its warm russet-colored tail. It inhabits the dense undergrowth of montane forests.
Where to spot
Montane rainforests of Kolombangara and possibly other islands in the Solomon Islands. It prefers dense, undisturbed areas.
How to spot
Search the forest floor in dense, high-altitude forests. It is a secretive bird, so patience and quiet observation are essential. Listening for its calls may increase chances of detection.
When to spot
Year-round resident. Best observed during the cooler parts of the day, particularly dawn and dusk.
This species is named after the Turipava region on the island of Bougainville, where it was first discovered, though its primary range is now considered to be elsewhere in the Solomons.
