Spotted
The Snow Partridge is a robust, high-altitude game bird uniquely adapted to cold, rugged mountain environments. Its plumage offers excellent camouflage against snow and rocky terrain.
Where to spot
Found on high-altitude rocky slopes, scree fields, and alpine meadows across the Himalayas and surrounding mountain ranges, from Afghanistan eastward to western China.
How to spot
Scan open rocky areas and scree slopes with binoculars or a spotting scope. Listen for their characteristic calls, which can help pinpoint their location.
When to spot
Most active in the early morning and late afternoon. Easier to spot outside of harsh winter conditions when snow cover is less extensive.

Despite its excellent camouflage, its distinctive whistling call often carries far across the mountains, giving away its presence.
