A large, olive-green cotinga found in the humid montane forests of the Andes. It is generally plain-plumaged but known for its loud, characteristic vocalizations.
Where to spot
Humid montane and cloud forests of the Andes, ranging from Colombia through Ecuador and Peru.
How to spot
Often heard before it is seen. Listen for its loud, distinctive 'piha!' call. When seen, look for a large, plain olive-green bird perching fairly upright in the mid-story to subcanopy.
When to spot
Resident throughout the year. Most vocal and active during the early morning and late afternoon.
