Spotted
The Lovely Fairywren is aptly named for the male's stunning blue, black, and white plumage, making it one of the most attractive fairywren species. It is endemic to northeastern Queensland.
Where to spot
Dense coastal scrub, vine thickets, and forest edges in northeastern Queensland, Australia.
How to spot
Focus on areas with dense undergrowth. Listen for their distinctive, often high-pitched calls. They move quickly in small groups, so watch for sudden movements in the foliage.
When to spot
Active during daylight hours, often more visible in the cooler parts of the day.
Despite its vibrant appearance, the Lovely Fairywren can be surprisingly difficult to spot as it tends to stick to dense coastal thickets and vine forests.
