Where to spot
Breeds on islands off Baja California, Mexico, including San Lorenzo and San Benitos. Disperses throughout the tropical eastern Pacific, from Baja California south to Peru.
How to spot
Identify by its exceptionally small size (often compared to a large swallow), all-dark plumage, and a slightly rounded tail. Its flight is fluttery and erratic, often low to the water. Best seen on pelagic trips off Baja California.

Present at breeding colonies from May to October. Can be observed at sea during these months, particularly off Baja California.
