Spotted
The White-eyed Parakeet is a common and widespread green parakeet named for the white orbital ring around its eyes. It often has scattered red feathers on its neck and wings.
Where to spot
Tropical and subtropical humid forests, savannas, woodlands, and urban areas across a vast range in central and eastern South America.
How to spot
Listen for their loud, harsh, and somewhat irregular calls. Look for them in medium to large flocks flying rapidly or foraging in the canopy of tall trees. The white eye-ring is a key field mark.
When to spot
Year-round. Most active during the day, especially noticeable at dawn and dusk when flocks are most vocal.
