The Black-headed Parrot is a vibrant, medium-sized parrot with a black head, green back, and orange/yellow breast and belly. It is a highly active and vocal species of the Amazon basin.
Where to spot
Humid lowland rainforests throughout the Amazon basin, including parts of Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Brazil, and the Guianas.
How to spot
Look for its striking black head and contrasting orange/yellow breast. Listen for its loud, piercing whistles and chattering calls. Often seen in small, active groups.
When to spot
Active throughout the day, particularly vocal and visible in the early morning and late afternoon. It is a resident.
