Spotted
The Austral Parakeet is a medium-sized, predominantly green parrot with a reddish forecrown and abdomen. It is the southernmost parrot species in the world.
Where to spot
Temperate Nothofagus forests and open woodlands of southern Chile and southwestern Argentina.
How to spot
Look for flocks in forested areas, often foraging on seeds and fruits. Their raucous calls are a good way to locate them. They can be quite confiding.
When to spot
Year-round, though observation can be more challenging during the colder winter months. Most active during the day.
