Spotted
The Peruvian Parakeet is a medium-sized green parakeet with a distinctive red patch on its forehead, often found in dry and semi-arid regions of Peru.
Where to spot
Dry scrubland, arid intermontane valleys, and open woodlands along the Pacific slope of Peru and extreme southwestern Ecuador.
How to spot
Look for flocks moving rapidly between feeding sites. Listen for their typical harsh, chattering calls. The red forehead is a good field mark.
When to spot
Year-round. Most active during the cooler parts of the day, early morning and late afternoon.
This species is known for its adaptability to dry environments, contrasting with many other parakeet species that prefer humid forests.
