The Greenish Puffleg is a charming hummingbird known for the distinctive white 'pufflegs' of downy feathers around its legs. Its body plumage is primarily green, blending into its humid forest habitat.
Where to spot
Found in the humid montane and cloud forests of the Andes, from Colombia south through Ecuador and into northern Peru. It prefers the understory and lower canopy, often near streams.
How to spot
Look for its overall green plumage and, most importantly, the prominent white fluffy leg feathers that give it its name. It often forages lower down in the vegetation than other hummingbirds, making it a bit more elusive.
When to spot
Active year-round in its range, feeding on nectar from a variety of flowering plants. Best observed during daylight hours, especially morning when it is actively foraging.
