A striking migratory flycatcher, males possess a distinctive green back and yellow underparts. It is a bird of forest canopy.
Where to spot
Breeds in mixed deciduous-coniferous forests in central China; winters in broadleaf evergreen forests in Southeast Asia.
How to spot
Look for it foraging high in the canopy, often sallying out to catch insects. Listen for its distinctive calls.
When to spot
Breeding season (summer) in China; during migration (spring/autumn) and winter (autumn to spring) in Southeast Asia.
This species was formerly considered a subspecies of the Narcissus Flycatcher but is now recognized as a separate species.
