Spotted
The Blue-throated Blue Flycatcher is a vibrant species with males exhibiting brilliant blue upperparts, a bright blue throat, and orange underparts. Females are duller and browner.
Where to spot
Widespread across South and Southeast Asia, from the Indian subcontinent eastward to China and Indochina. Inhabits various forest types, including evergreen and deciduous, often near water.
How to spot
Look for the male's distinct blue throat and orange belly. It often perches on exposed branches in the mid-story, sallying for insects. Listen for its sweet, varied song.
When to spot
Resident in some areas, but a partial or altitudinal migrant in others. Best observed during breeding season (spring/summer) at higher elevations or in winter at lower ones. Most active at dawn and dusk.
