Grauer's Broadbill is a rare and strikingly colored broadbill, predominantly green with a blue crown and chest, and a broad, pale bill. It is endemic to the Albertine Rift.
Where to spot
Afromontane forest and bamboo thickets in the Albertine Rift mountains of eastern Democratic Republic of Congo and southwestern Uganda.
How to spot
Observation requires visiting specific, often remote, forest reserves. Look for it foraging quietly in the mid-story. Its calls are distinctive, a series of mellow whistles.
When to spot
Year-round. Best observed during the early morning or late afternoon.
Grauer's Broadbill is highly sought after by birdwatchers due to its rarity and beautiful plumage, making it a 'holy grail' species for many.
